SIDE BY SIDE is a range of products that we consider to be very special indeed - because of its particular provenance. Administered under Caritas, it is a collaboration of nine different sheltered workshops, based around Germany, for the intellectually and physically disabled. Their mission: to combine good design with useful, everyday objects whilst also providing meaningful employment for their charges. Commissioning the ideas & talent of bright, young designers they have developed range of functional products that epitomise pure simplicity, a pared backed aesthetic & high quality. Their success is to be seen in the well resolved, beautifully hand-crafted result.
Note: all Side by Side products include a swing tag/ info label explaining the workshop and its goals and most come packaged in a ‘kraft’ carton labelled with their signature orange & white.

NAPKIN RINGS
Winner of both # FORM & DESIGN PLUS prizes, these novel napkin holders do double duty as a place-card: the smart black surface is for writing on! And why stop at names… perhaps menu or quote…? Design that embodies pure, striking simplicity: the thin red line extends beyond the edge of the towel to form an integral, essential ‘loop’ for hanging. A tea towel of 50% cotton + 50% linen for “professional drying”.

Every sartorially mindful person needs one (we wish!) but in the absence of, this ‘daily’ wardrobe organizer / hanger does the trick! Elegantly simple & handcrafted by the Side by Side workshop in untreated ash.
The cleverness is the additional hanger, reflecting that above with a witty twist, used as a cross bar to help the Butler self-stand in readiness for any piece of wardrobe one cares to throw at ti or hang on it!
